Cats~
You can love 'em. You can hate 'em. But you can't ignore them.
Sitting, trying to work a crossword puzzle in the newspaper...and he has to sit in the middle of it all. It is not that he wants to kibbutz or work the puzzle himself. Heck! He can't even hold a pencil...no thumbs. He is just firmly planted in the middle and is not getting out of your way.
If you try to ignore him he tries to chew the eraser off your pencil. Then again, he has done that to a number of my pencils, so I now put them eraser end down in the pencil cup.
Another ploy is the 'soft paw to the chest' move. He will gently pat your chest to get your attention. No nails, just pats.
This whole performance is to say, "You must stop all activity and pet me. I am the center of the world."
It is interesting that he manages to sit on the specific area of the puzzle you are working on. I do sometimes wonder if he might be able to read.
When he is satisfied, he rises and moves on....to take up napping on the nearest and most comfy chair or spot he can find. Until he feels the need for attention...
